Berkeley Preparatory School's Science Department provides all
middle and upper division students with the opportunity to learn and work on a daily basis
in modern, spacious, well-equipped and safe facilities. The middle division sciences
occupy three new classrooms, each specifically designed to accommodate the three
disciplines taught. The upper division sciences occupy five lecture/lab classrooms, one
"mini" biology lab in which students in AP biology, microbiology and anatomy and
physiology classes can work on extended experiments; a chemistry prep room; a locked
chemical storage room; a physics storage room; a computer alcove; and teachers offices
that are easily accessible to students needing extra help. The middle and upper division
facilities contain fume hoods, eye wash stations and showers. Fire blankets and fire
extinguishers are located in all lab areas. Chemistry areas have ultraviolet light
cabinets for goggle disinfection. Life science and/or biology areas are equipped with
refrigerators, a dishwasher, an autoclave, incubators, 1000X par focal compound
microscopes with substage illuminators and mechanical stages and stereoscopes. Laboratory
work is recognized as a vital component of Berkeley's science curriculum. The
administration yearly budgets for all necessary consumables and equipment needed to
provide each middle and upper division science student with a unique learning experience.
