Technology is an important aid in the teaching of science at
Berkeley Preparatory School. All classrooms are equipped with a television/monitor,
VCR, overhead projector, large screen video projector, sound systems, and Internet connection. Several laser disc players, a
collection of videotapes, laser discs and CD-ROM's are available in each of the subject
areas. Students use computers to collect data via sensors and to analyze and
graph the data. The Berkeley computer network supports science instruction with word
processing, spreadsheets, graphing, an automated library database, e-mail and Internet
access. Most upper division students have and use their own graphing calculators.
Calculator Based Lab (CBL) sensor interfaces, Vernier and Pasco sensors and extra graphing
calculators are available for laboratory work. Video cameras, scanners,
and a microscope video camera are also available to support science learning. Annual
enrichment funds are expended each year to augment the Science Department's use of
technology.
