There are several types of scanners. What we use at BPS is the flatbed
scanner. It’s similar to a copy
machine. You put the item you want to
scan on the glass (face down) and close the lid. After that, the operation will vary from one scanner to another. All use software to communicate with the
computer. If you use a specific
scanner, go to the Help menu and read the Guide or Getting started section it
may have available to get more acquainted with this specific scanner.
Many scanners have the capability of scanning and item as a
picture or as text. You may have to
make selections for these choices on your scanner. With pictures, you also have selections on resolution which is
how detailed the image appears. The
higher the resolution, the larger the file—try to keep files as small as you
can and still get a good image. For
Internet usage, scan as a .jpg (photos) or .gif (illustrations) between 72 and
96 dpi, for a printout 150 will probably be acceptable.
