Shortcuts to Searching

  1. Be as specific as possible.
  2. If you’re brainstorming for a topic, try a directory listing.
  3. Use a + in front of any word you want to appear in the results:  +outback +football
  4. Put a minus sign in front of words you don’t want in the result:  +outback   –restaurant
  5. Use quotation marks for a phrase, words in sequence:  “outback bowl”
  6. Use lower case to avoid case sensitivity.  Outback will find outback, Outback, and OUTBACK Outback will only find Outback.
  7. Use a wildcard (*) to include similar words, such as run* includes runs, runner and running.
  8. For a really quick search, type ? keyword in the address line of your browser.
