Guidelines and Tips for Web Page Design

*       Develop content with audience in mind.

*       Decide on how information should be displayed (one page, several).

*       Title each page appropriately (this is used as the default bookmark).

*       Edit for grammar and spelling.

*       Include author and your position.  (citation or evaluation purposes)

*       Include a date.  (citation or evaluation purposes)

*       Add a “New” icon to added material.

*       Provide e-mail link or address for feedback.

*       Test that links work and revisit periodically.

*       Ask someone to edit or check your page.

*       Limit the size and number of graphics due to load time.

*       Contrast text by using dark font on light background or light on dark.

*       Use descriptive words for links.

*       Consider using a Home link on sub-pages.

*       Check printout size (number of pages) to see if a change would alleviate a “one liner” page at the end.

*       Consider providing a printout page if there is a lot of content or it’s spread over several pages.

*       Provide inner links on long pages.
