Guidelines and Tips for Web Page Design
Develop content with audience in mind.
Decide on how information should be
displayed (one page, several).
Title each page appropriately (this is
used as the default bookmark).
Edit for grammar and spelling.
Include author and your position. (citation or evaluation purposes)
Include a date. (citation or evaluation purposes)
Add a “New” icon to added material.
Provide e-mail link or address for
feedback.
Test that links work and revisit
periodically.
Ask someone to edit or check your page.
Limit the size and number of graphics due
to load time.
Contrast text by using dark font on light
background or light on dark.
Use descriptive words for links.
Consider using a Home link on sub-pages.
Check printout size (number of pages) to
see if a change would alleviate a “one liner” page at the end.
Consider providing a printout page if
there is a lot of content or it’s spread over several pages.
Provide inner links on long pages.
