It’s Better to Write and Read Poetry Than to…

DIRECTIONS FOR A POEM

 

1.     Use Times New Roman, bold, size 16

2.     Center the poem.

3.     The title is…It’s Better To…

4.     After the title write your name. Capitalize the B in By

5.     Skip a line after the By line

6.     This poem is at least 8 lines long. You may make yours longer.

7.     Lines 1, 3, 5, and 7 should be stated this way: 

          It’s better to ___ than  ___

8.     Lines 2,4, 6, and 8 should be stated this way:

          And better to ____than to____.

9.     If you want to have more lines than 8, follow the pattern from steps 7 and 8 above.

10.                         Center the poem on the top and bottom and left and right so that it looks eye-appealing.

11.                         Add a hand-drawn border or one from clip art.

12.                         Proof-read your poem. Try adding some poetic devices to your poem.

 

 

EXAMPLE:

 

It’s Better To…

By _____

 It’s better to smile than frown

And better to be early than late.

It’s better to be warm than cool

And better to like than hate.

It’s better to go up than down

And better to sing than cry.

It’s better to walk than run

And better to say “Hello” than “Good-bye”.
