Three Berkeley Student-Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent


National Signing Day has become an annual tradition at Berkeley honoring the hard work and dedication of our senior Buccaneers who will continue their academic and athletic endeavors at some of the country’s top colleges and universities. The ceremony was streamed live on the Berkeley Broadcast Network and can be replayed for viewing at www.berkeleyprep.org/BBNextra.

Addison Grams:
Addison is a four-year letterman and starter on the varsity football team. Addison played corner, free safety, wide receiver, kick return and tailback for the Buccaneers. Addison has also participated in soccer and track while at Berkeley. In this senior football season Addison had 30 solo tackles and more than 60 total tackles on the year. He had two interceptions, one fumble caused, one fumble recovered and six touchdowns. He averaged 12 yards per reception. Addison was named a Scholar-Athlete by the Tampa Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Addison made his commitment to play football at Davidson College.

Jacob Mathis:
Jacob is a four-year letterman and starter on the varsity football team. He has played wide-out and tight end and was, this year, named by ESPN as the #1 H-Back in the country. In four years, Jacob had approximately 3,000 receiving yards and has averaged 17 yards per catch. He has 33 career touchdowns. He was named All-County, All–State, and All-American, and was named to the Under Armour All-American game. An all-around athlete, Jacob has also amassed 1,337 career points on the basketball court. Jacob was recruited by all the top college football programs in the country. He signed his National Letter of Intent to play football at the University of Mississippi.

Jon Turkel:
Jon has been a four-year letterman on the varsity football team and three-year starter as a defensive end. He was named to the Hillsborough All-County team and invited to participate in the Hillsborough County All-Star Game. Jon was named second team by All Big-County Preps. This season Jon had 18 hurries, 11 Sacks, 20 tackles for loss, and 30 solo tackles. For his career Jon has 155 total tackles, 45 tackles for loss, and 30 Sacks. Named a Scholar-Athlete by the Tampa Chapter of the National Football Foundation, Jon was recruited by many great academic institutions and received football offers from Stetson, Bowdoin College and Tufts University. He also received high interest from several Ivy League schools but today made his commitment to play football at Davidson College.
