Coach Dominick Ciao Earns 200th Career Win

Ciao’s football coaching career began at Jesuit High School in 1986, where he coached for 17 years and built an impressive coaching reputation for his accomplishments both on and off the field. After a brief break from the sidelines, he returned to his true calling and became the head coach at Berkeley in 2007, where his winning ways continue.

“Two hundred football wins are remarkable given there is just a 10-game guaranteed yearly schedule,” said Bobby Reinhart, Berkeley’s Athletic Director and Head Boys Basketball Coach. “I am thrilled for Dom as his success is truly earned and so well deserved. However, it’s his lifelong impact on all the players he has coached that is immeasurable. Coach Ciao is one of a kind, and we are thrilled he is a Berkeley Buccaneer.”

In March, Ciao was recognized by the Positive Coaching Alliance’s coveted Double-Goal Coach Award for his positive impact on youth athletes. Ciao is one of 50 national recipients of the Double-Goal Coach Award, named for coaches who strive to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. Ciao’s nomination – one of more than 2,400 submitted nationwide – was notable for its testimonials from former NFL coaches Monte Kiffin and Greg Schiano. Wrote Kiffin: “All the players that have played for him absolutely think the world of him, and after graduating many return time and time again to see him. A number of them have returned to coach with him after they finish college.”

The win places Ciao’s career record at an impressive 200-94 placing him among Hillsborough County’s most respected and accomplished coaches.
