Pre-K

The Pre-Kindergarten program has been carefully designed to develop the whole child, keeping in mind that each child comes with his or her own road map for development. The curriculum is carefully balanced with teacher-directed and child-selected activities and emphasizes play as an essential method for growth.

The following four areas provide the cornerstones of the program.

Social and Emotional Development
Through intentional lessons, role-play, and coaching in everyday situations, the children develop the language and skills to express emotions, solve problems, and build positive relationships with peers. The children are empowered with the skills and tools to approach problems and feelings in productive ways, with adults who are ready to stand by their side and support them.

Cognitive Growth
The language arts curriculum introduces the letter-sound connection as well as reading and writing readiness. The mathematics program introduces the association of number and numeral and provides children the opportunity to sort, classify, pattern, count, calculate, estimate, and engage in reasoning activities. Science and social studies are presented by way of unit studies.

Creative Expression
The children are encouraged daily to express themselves through creative play in the classroom and on the playground. Through an integrated fine arts program, the children are engaged in many projects and activities that allow them to express themselves through art, music, and drama.

Physical Development
Large and small motor skills are emphasized daily. The children cut, match, construct, paint, color, draw, trace, and manipulate small objects during play. On our playgrounds daily and through physical education classes four times per week, children are given the opportunity to develop the muscles needed for strength and stamina.
