BERKELEY LAUNCHES SECOND YEAR OF BERKELEY ACADEMY

The Berkeley Academy follows students for six years mentoring and guiding them on their path to college.  The program is comprised of academic and enrichment courses designed to promote a love of learning and helps students reach their unique potential.  The students study four core subject areas: English, math, science and social studies. Students also participate in other enrichment and athletic classes. In high school, students and their families attend comprehensive college and career readiness workshops. Berkeley partnered with Hillsborough County Public Schools to develop the program’s curriculum and works with a USF doctoral graduate to analyze data from the program to determine results. In addition, Berkeley is collaborating with the University of Tampa to develop a comprehensive teacher training program for the Berkeley Academy teachers, many of whom are students working to earn their degrees.

“This year’s overall application increase allows us to keep making long-lasting impacts on the students and families it serves. By leveraging our school’s resources, the Berkeley Academy continues to benefit deserving students and strengthen our relationship in the community. We are proud of what we’ve done and what we will continue doing,” said John Touchton, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Berkeley Preparatory School.

Students are eligible to apply during their sixth-grade year. The program accommodates approximately 40 new students annually.
