Ramakrishnan Highlights Impressive Showing by Berkeley Art Students
Scholastic shared, “Nearly 340,000 works of art and writing were submitted to the 2019 Scholastic Awards. Her work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Receiving a National Medal places Tori within the top 1% of all submissions.”
The competition is widely regarded as the most distinguished of its kind in identifying the country’s top artistic and literary talents. Gold Key awards are considered the very best works submitted to local programs and are automatically considered for national-level recognition. Five works, from across all categories and grades, are selected from those earning Gold Keys as the “Best of Show” for each local program and recognized as American Visions Nominees.
Each year, high school students throughout Tampa Bay participate in the program and become a part of an impressive community of young artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process. Annually, Berkeley ranks among the top schools in the region. Berkeley students won 13 Gold Key Awards, 25 Silver Key Awards, and 45 Honorable Mentions.
As a national medalist, Ramakrishnan’s work will be published in the Scholastic Online Galleries and she will be listed in the Scholastic 2019 yearbook. Her work will be on display at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at the Parsons School of Design at the New School and at Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery in New York City in June. Tori will also be recognized at the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 6, 2019.
Founded in 1960, Berkeley is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory day school located in Tampa, FL, for boys and girls in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. Approximately 1,400 students gather here from the greater Tampa Bay area to form ONE Berkeley.
