Seffner Invitational Results

On Saturday, the Cross Country Bucs made another pre-sunrise trip to participate in the Seffner Christian Invitational at Holloway Park in Lakeland. This beautiful and challenging cross country course offered us an opportunity to reflect on the beauty of nature and ponder the words of the great literary writer Henry David Thoreau – “I took a walk run (modified for effect) in the woods and came out taller than the trees.”
The Varsity Girls were the first to line up, competing in the Elite Division. While half the team was battling the dreaded Berkeley plague, they still competed with grit over this challenging course. Anna McDermott led the way once again, finishing 24th and breaking 22 minutes (a good time for this course). Next, the “Berkeley Pack!” In an attempt to continue to close the gap between our numbers 2 – 9, the team succeeded with only 54 seconds separation within the pack. Finley Jordan continues to run strong on this course as she got out well to lead our pack on the day. Wylie Kylie Stephens finished just behind, to run on as our 3. Abby Armstrong unloaded a season best time on this course, as she ran her most dominant race of the year to finish as our number 4. Heidi Hausinger finished just a few spots behind to round out our team scoring. Within seconds, Macy Maiocco, Abbey Ramos, Emma Flowers, and Emily McDermott closed out the race as the Berkeley Pack continues to get stronger. The team finished 7th on the day.
The Varsity Boys competed next in a star-studded field in the Elite Division. Ethan Lipham continues to run strong up front, competing against the best in state (this race featured the top-seeded runners from class 3A and 4A). Ethan finished 5th on the day, running 78 seconds faster on this course as compared to last year. The team welcomed back Wolfgang Weber from sickness, as he finished a strong number 2 on the day. Luke Doyle continues his emergence as one of our top guys to run a sturdy race, on a daunting course. Alex Shear just missed a PR, as he continues to improve weekly to give us much needed depth.
Later in the morning, the JV XC Bucs were in action! The Girls were led by Grace Barrett who held tough for an 8th place finish overall. Zara Khan opened her XC season with a 30th place finish, while teammate Delaney English finished just a few places behind in 33rd. The JV Boys were led by a fiery Storm Weber who ran a lifetime PR on this course to place 18th overall (out of 210). The team welcomed back Liam Andrews, participating in his first race of the season. Liam ran as a strong number 2. Participating in his first cross country event, Diogo Santos looked strong the 2nd half of the race to run a as our 3. Mason Cruse also opened up his season with an impressive race to finish as our number 4. Geno Fraifer and Miller Moore finished within seconds of each other to round out our team scoring. Anthony Broome, Kody Stephens, John Reilly, and Zev Huneycutt added much needed depth on the morning. The JV boys team finished 11th overall.
The MD XC Teams will be in action on Tuesday participating in FWCL league play at Carrollwood Day School. The Varsity and JV teams will be off this week, and will return the following weekend to compete in the Flrunners Invitational on the same course as this past weekend – Holloway Park. Go Bucs!
