Weekend Results

This weekend, the Cross Country Bucs were in action across the State of Florida. The Varsity team traveled to Tallahassee to compete in the FSU Pre-State Invitational, while the JV teams were in action on Friday at the CCC Invitational.
On Saturday morning, the XC Bucs arose from the slumber yet again to witness another beautiful sunrise in the land of the Seminoles. Competing on the state meet course, your Bucs would make Chief Osceola proud as many athletes were at or near their personal or seasonal best marks. The Boys competed in the prestigious Elite Division – this race featured 25 of the best programs from Florida (22 schools), 2 from Georgia, and 1 from Tennessee. The “Buc Boys” placed 15th overall and continued to improve against some of the best of the best. Currently, we are ranked # 3 in Class 2A, and we defeated Seffner Christian (first time this year – and ranked #1 in Class 1A), Estero (for the second time – currently ranked #4 in 3A), Ponte Vedra (#8 in 3A), Fort Myers (#9 in 3A), Stanton Prep (#11 in 3A), Chiles (#6 in 4A), and Sarasota (defending 4A champs and #14 in 4A). The boys were led by Ethan Lipham with a 28th place finish (out of 241), and another strong performance proving he belongs with the top tier in Florida. Also making a statement race, Hudson Rowan, ran a massive PR to place 41st overall and put himself as the #9 ranked Berkeley 5K runner in school history (passing the great Vasilis Vasiloudes). Trey Morris ran a big PR to move up the Berkeley all-time 5K list to number 14 (tying Max Borland). Kirin Karver continued to prove he is one of the best freshman in the state (currently ranked 9th overall among all freshman in the state). With the absence of our traditional number 5, Wolfgang Weber stepped up to run a near personal best time. Colby Kulda and Liam Jordan finished within one second of each other in either a season or personal best time. Not too far behind, Alex Shear ran a PR (and bested his brother’s PR by a fraction of a second). Rounding out our varsity runners on the day, George Smith ran a season best time.
The Girls competed in the Select Division, finishing 18th out of 28 schools. The Girls team is currently ranked 13th in class 2A, and they defeated some notable programs such as Gulliver Prep, Academy of the Holy Names, Steinbrenner, Braden River, and Maclay. The girls were led once again by Anna McDermott who uncorked a huge personal best time to finish 30th (out of 251 runners). Her time moves her into a tie for 12th best all-time Berkeley 5K mark (tying the great Georgette Price). Next up, the “Berkeley Pack.” Heidi Hausinger continued her amazing freshman season (first season on varsity) to run a near minute PR as our second runner. Not too far behind, Finley Jordan and Claire Armstrong run a pair of great races (PR for Claire) to run as our 3-4. Abbey Ramos continued her strong senior season with a big push in the early part of the race to round out our scoring 5. Kylie Stephens was within 20 seconds of Abbey, while Emma Flowers and Abby Armstrong had a pair of great finishes to conclude the varsity race.
The JV teams were in action at the CCC invitational. The Berkeley Boys were the first to race, finishing 7th as a team and defeating programs such as Cardinal Mooney, Admiral Farragut, and Shorecrest. The boys were led by the tenacious Diogo Santos who set a big personal best mark. Geno Fraifer also continued his improvement throughout the season with a strong run to be our number 2. Robert Muldrow and Mason Cruse had a pair of spectacular races to run at or near their season best times. Anthony Broome rounded out our scoring 5 with a robust, tough race. In the JV Girls race, the Bucs placed 4th as a team. Another freshman stepped up, Angelina Cardona, to lead the Berkeley Girls with a near 2-minute PR. Only one place behind, Briana Orbegoso ran a very strong race as our number 2. Thalia Fraifer continued her rebound, with a season best mark for our number 3. Delaney English was just 2 seconds off her personal best time, while Wendy Lew rounded out our scoring 5.
MD and JV teams will be in action today. MD will participate in their final CDS league meet for the year, while the JV teams will take to Al Lopez park to participate in the Hillsborough County Championships. The Varsity teams wrapped up their regular season over the weekend, and will take a week off before Districts on October 24th in Weeki Wachee. Go Bucs!
