Four Berkeley Students Selected as Presidential Scholar Candidates

Four students from Berkeley Preparatory School have been selected as candidates for the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Approximately 4,500 high school seniors are chosen for outstanding performance on the SAT or the ACT. From the Berkeley Class of 2021, Michael Cui, Brantley Deady, Ryan D’Cuhna, and Lila Patterson were selected and will now submit candidacy materials for consideration highlighting leadership qualities, personal character, involvement in community, and school activities. Up to 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars are chosen annually from the initial pool of candidates. If circumstances permit, all Scholars will be invited to Washington, D.C. in June for the National Recognition Program, featuring events and enrichment activities including the Presidential Scholars medallion presentation during a White House-sponsored ceremony.

Final selection of the Scholars will be made by the Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of eminent citizens appointed by the President, and will be announced in May. The Commission will select one young man and one young woman from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. students living abroad. Eligible students are U.S. citizens and legal permanent U.S residents graduating or receiving a diploma between January and August 2021.
