Berkeley Senior Enlists the Power of Music to Inspire Senior Citizens

During the 2021-22 academic year, Ava LeBeau ’23 was awarded the 50th Anniversary Service Scholar Award from Berkeley, which provided her funding for a service project she planned to launch to benefit senior citizens.

Fast forward to this year, when the service project took shape this semester. Ava and other musically inclined Upper Division students recently performed in Clearwater at Suncoast PACE, a facility that supports seniors challenged by chronic and advanced illnesses.

These talented students received service hours by performing for the seniors and provided them with care packages containing puzzles and personal care items. The power of music was evident as each beautiful performance energized those in the audience. “Music can have a really powerful effect on people, and I wanted to provide music for people who would otherwise be unable to see live musical performances due to their circumstances,” said Ava.

The 50th Anniversary Service Scholar Award recognizes the commitment of Berkeley students to make a positive difference in the lives of others. This merit-based award is presented to an Upper Division student who exemplifies the essential values of Berkeley Preparatory School in an extraordinary way.
