Lead Others as God Leads Us
“The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them.” These words from today's MidWeek Prayer Scripture really stick out to me. These words mean that you can find things like leadership and help from unexpected sources. You can find guidance from people or things where you least expected to. I have had an experience where I have found guidance from an unexpected source in my own life.
When I was around 7 years old, my family was visiting my cousins up in Michigan for the summer. We stayed at my older cousins’ house, and they had a mini basketball court with basketballs in their backyard. I remember I wouldn’t have too much to do back then, as my cousins were older than me and didn’t really hang out with me very much. So, most of my time spent up there was grabbing a basketball and practicing my shooting. Obviously, being only 7 years old, I wasn’t very good, and I would get mad when most of my shots didn’t go in the net.
One day I really wanted my dad to help me with my shooting, but my parents, aunts, and uncles all went out to dinner that night. So, I was left being babysat by my cousin, who was around 11 at the time. I didn’t think she would help me, so I went outside by myself to practice. However, after she saw me playing outside all by myself, she ended up coming outside with me too. I was so happy that she was spending time with me, and she even helped me work on my shooting, as she played basketball too.
This situation was so heartwarming to my little 7-year-old self, and I think it’s really important to try your best to help people around you, as my older cousin did for me. It really is an act of kindness, and finding leadership from unexpected sources and people can be very surprising and uplifting. Thank you.
