Don’t Fear, God is Near

In the psalm read by Ava, it says “The Lord shall preserve you from all evil, it is he who shall keep you safe.” This stood out to me in many ways. Every Morning when I walk downstairs, my parents always have the news playing on our TV.  Whether I listen in closely, or just overhear it while putting on my shoes, I hear words like terrorists, school shootings, diseases, natural disasters, and more. Just listening to this surrounds me in a world of fear. I worry for myself, my friends, my family, and even people I don't know.

It can be really hard not to worry and trust God that he will keep you safe, especially during times of panic. However, psalm 121 reminds us that the lord watches over us and keeps us from all harm. This shows that we do not need to worry or fear about anything. Instead, look up to the lord to find comfort.

Another time when fear was brought into my life was when I was about 7 years old. My little brother got really sick and had to be taken into the hospital for 5 days straight. At the time, I had no idea what was going on or why he had to stay in this huge building instead of just missing school and chilling at home like we usually did when we were sick. I started to realize that  something wasn’t right and so I began to worry. I worried because I had no idea what was going to happen to my 1 year old little brother.

During this time, it was extremely hard to trust in God that he is right there with you and is sheltering and keeping you safe and away from harm. However, I managed to let go of my fear and trust that God was with him and knew that there was a purpose for everything that was happening.

I challenge you to not fear, and not worry even during the hardest times. Instead look to God, and trust in him to keep you safe and guide you through challenging times.
