Bingo Celebrates First Birthday at Berkeley

Bingo celebrated his first birthday with his Berkeley family today.  The one-year-old black Labrador retriever is being prepared for a unique role as a service dog.  Bingo spends three days a week among the Berkeley student body and has become very well adapted to the Berkeley life.  He trains and studies to pass regular tests, and he must learn how to behave properly in challenging social, occupational and physical situations before he can graduate.  Once Bingo satisfies numerous and quite rigorous qualifications, he will become a guide dog for a blind or otherwise impaired man or woman through either the Paws for Patriots or the regular guide dog program,” said Bingo’s sponsor, Berkeley Upper Division Librarian CD McLean.  “It’s very rewarding to think that one day Bingo will become someone’s eyes and give them the help and confidence to leave their home and get around on their own again.”  Happy Birthday, Bingo!  If you would like to read more about Bingo and his progress, check out http://mcleanpup.blogspot.com.
