Upper Division Welcomes Ambassador Vicki Huddleston

Upper division students had the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with Ambassador Vicki Huddleston during a luncheon on April 5. Ambassador Huddleston is a retired career Senior Foreign Service Officer, and she last served as the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from June 2009 through December 2011. In addition to her work with Africa, she served as the principal officer of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Cuba.

Huddleston shared with our students her various career tracks in foreign relations, including a stint as a Peace Corps volunteer in Peru. She has received several U.S. Department of State awards, including a Distinguished Honor Award and a Presidential Meritorious Service Award. Huddleston has penned opinion pieces in The New York Times, The Miami Herald and The Washington Post. Her experiences abroad were fascinating to our students, many of whom expressed great interest in foreign affairs.
