Harwell '14 Honored with Achievement Award for Community Service

Berkeley Preparatory School is proud to recognize Emily Harwell ’14 for recently being selected by the Florida Commission on the Status of Women (FCSW) to receive the FCSW Florida Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions and service to her community.

In honoring Harwell, the FCSW noted that her involvement in Girl Up, a program sponsored by the United Nations that educates and empowers American girls to address issues facing girls across the globe, showcased her ability to make a difference both locally and abroad. Harwell was selected from a national pool to serve as a Teen Advisor for Girl Up. In recognizing her achievements, the FCSW was impressed with a service project she spearheaded explaining, “She created a curriculum to help other girls in the Tampa Bay community get involved in the program.” Harwell is a leading member of the Berkeley Community Service Council, and has completed over 300 hours of service to her community. She lists among her many school activities membership in Latin Club, Model UN and she is a tutor in the Betty-Bruce Hoover Center for Writing at Berkeley.

Harwell will formally be recognized for her achievement at an awards ceremony on September 20 at the University of Tampa. Congratulations Emily! You personify our vision of, “Berkeley puts people in the world who make a positive difference.”
