The entire Berkeley community came together today to wish Declan Farmer ’16 “good luck” on his pursuit to claim Olympic gold as a member of the U.S. sled hockey team at the upcoming Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia. All divisions showed their school spirit and pride by wearing red, white and blue in honor of their classmate. A special upper division convocation, attended by a standing-room-only crowd of classmates, teachers, administrators and the media, served as a special tribute to Declan. An inspiring singing of the national anthem was performed by the Mello Divas; a student-produced tribute video highlighting Declan’s accomplishments in sled hockey was debuted; and good luck banners with hundreds of well-wishes were proudly displayed to add to the exciting atmosphere.
Declan’s classmates, along with his teachers, spearheaded this effort and deserve credit for making the day so special for one of their own and his family. Declan’s pursuit of Olympic glory takes place March 7-16, 2014.
