How to Apply

Applying to Lower Division

Berkeley Preparatory School’s admissions process is a holistic analysis of an applicant’s developmental, social-emotional, and academic ability and potential.  Lower Division applications are available in early September, with a January 15 deadline (or until assessment slots are filled).  Admissions decisions are communicated in early to mid-March.  Applications received after the deadline will be considered for the waiting pool.

  • Campus Visit

    • Parents are encouraged to schedule a campus visit to discuss the admissions process.
  • Application

    • Complete the online application.
    • Upload the applicant’s birth certificate and optional photograph.
    • Submit the non-refundable $75 application fee.
    • Once the application is submitted, you will be contacted by the Admissions Office to coordinate assessment dates and a parent meeting.
    • Application Deadline: January 15 (or until assessment slots are filled) - Admissions applications received after the deadline will be considered for our waiting pool.
  • Student Record Release Form (Grades 1-5 only)

    • Print, sign, and submit to the appropriate official at your child’s school (ie. registrar or school principal) after November 15.
    • Completed form and records should be mailed or emailed directly to Berkeley.
  • Teacher Recommendation Form

    Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
    • Print and sign Permission for School to Release Student Records, located on the PreK-K School Recommendation Checklist, and deliver to applicant’s current school after November 15.
    • This recommendation should be completed by your child’s current teacher and signed by the principal or head of school.
    • Please have completed School Recommendation Checklist and transcripts (if applicable) forwarded directly to the Admissions Office before your child’s admissions visit.
    • As a courtesy, please include a stamped envelope addressed to the Berkeley Preparatory School - Lower Division Admissions Office or have the teacher scan and email the recommendation to admissions@berkeleyprep.org.
    1st-5th Grade
    • Print, sign, and submit after November 15.
    • A Teacher Recommendation Form is required from the child’s current teacher before your child’s admissions visit.
    • 1st Grade Recommendation (for students applying to 1st Grade)
    • 2nd-5th Grade Recommendation (for students applying to 2nd - 5th Grade)
    • As a courtesy, please include a stamped envelope addressed to the Berkeley Preparatory School – Lower Division Admissions Office or have the teacher scan and email the recommendation to admissions@berkeleyprep.org.
  • Admissions Testing

    • Expect Berkeley to confirm receipt of your application via email scheduling your child’s assessment(s) for December - February.
    • Admissions assessments/testing vary by grade level.
  • Financial Aid

    If you anticipate requesting financial aid, please review our financial aid webpage for important deadlines and procedures.
Berkeley makes all admission decisions without regard to financial status. Families who have reviewed their financial situation and feel that help may be needed in paying tuition should apply for aid. Financial aid awards are available at any grade level to students who demonstrate need.
