Music Program

In Lower Division, all students are exposed to weekly instruction and learn to experience music through practice and performance. Students develop a strong foundation in both concepts and skills as they study the elements of music and sing, dance, and play a variety of Orff and percussion instruments. Other music highlights include keyboarding, recorders, ukulele/guitar, solfege vocal techniques, music theory, and the pre-k through fifth grade winter concerts.

Students looking for more musical opportunities can participate in our Lower Division Choir, the Berkeley Blue Notes, which is one of our after-school clubs. The choir has sung the national anthem at a Tampa Tarpons Minor League Baseball game and a Tampa Bay Sun Women’s Soccer game, performed at Busch Gardens and Universal Orlando, and sung at Inspired Living Memory Care during the holidays.

Students can also continue their education through the Artists of Tomorrow program at Berkeley Summer Programs.

In Middle Division, all students continue to advance their music education in performance-based classes. Our curriculum offers four different tracks for the students to pursue: Band, Chorus, Orchestra, and Bagpipes. They can also participate in a variety of music-related clubs and student groups such as the Jazz Collective and the Berkeley Preparatory Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Middle Division Spring Musical.

Our Middle and Upper Division music ensembles—including the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Solo and Ensemble—participate in district music performance assessments each year.

In Upper Division, our curriculum offers Chorus, Orchestra, AP Music Theory, Band, Rock Band, Guitar, and Bagpipes for students who wish to continue developing their craft as maturing musicians. In addition to our curricular offerings, we also provide various performance opportunities outside the classroom. Co-curricular opportunities include:

• A Cappella Groups (Beatitones and Mello Divas)
• Jazz Ensemble
• Pipe and Drum Corps
• Upper Division Spring Musical
• Berkeley Preparatory Symphony Orchestra
• Marching Band
• Chapel Music

Our Middle and Upper Division music ensembles—including the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Solo and Ensemble—participate in district music performance assessments each year. Many of our Upper Division students have been recognized as All-State musicians.
