Athletics enriches the lives of Berkeley students. With an Open Participation Policy, approximately 80 percent of our 6
th through 12
th grade students compete in interscholastic sports. This creates a climate of teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship that encourages students to develop new skills and talents, often with dramatic results.
The combination of sound coaching, hard work, talent, and academic preparation has allowed our students to garner varsity roster spots from dozens of colleges and universities including Bucknell, Harvard, Dartmouth, Cornell, Davidson, Duke, Elon, Notre Dame, Southern Methodist, Tufts, Amherst, the Air Force Academy, North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, Northwestern, Pennsylvania, and Rhodes. Berkeley currently has
96 alumni competing at the collegiate level and four alumni competing as a professional.
Berkeley annually ranks as a top five athletic program among over 80 Bay area public and private schools. Our varsity teams compete against the state’s best competition in every sport. Berkeley hosts and competes in some of the nation’s best tournaments.
Berkeley’s full range of varsity and junior varsity teams in the Middle and Upper Divisions includes 16 sports and more than 80 teams. Berkeley is a 3A school and a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association and the Florida West Coast League. Additionally, Berkeley has won more than 70 FHSAA Academic Team State Championships and has been the Overall Team Academic Champion nine of the last 11 years.
