Fifth Graders Care for Plants To Prepare for Laptops

Sep 12, 2025

In fifth grade, Berkeley students start using MacBook Pro laptops to enhance their studies and build their technological skills. To prepare for this new responsibility, they are tasked with caring for a plant and bringing it with them to and from school. Once the project is complete and the students understand how to travel with something fragile, they transfer their plants from pots into a garden and are given the laptops.

As an Apple Distinguished School, Berkeley champions innovative learning and teaching, incorporating technology at every level of the educational journey. This includes using Apple iPads in kindergarten through fourth grade, exploring STEM topics in Middle Division Robotics Club, creating digital art and animation in Upper Division, and more.
