West Manatee Results

The Varsity Hockey team faced off against West Manatee on Friday night in Ellenton. The sting of the Ice Bucs’ bitter loss to the Hurricanes several weeks prior – having led in the third period 4-1 – was still fresh on everyone’s mind. The rematch would prove much more satisfying. Senior Captain, Marcus Rose, put Berkeley on the board at the end of the first period, giving the Ice Bucs a 1-0 lead during the first intermission. Rose found the back of the net again at the end of the second period to match an earlier Hurricane goal, making the score 2-1 going into the third period. West Manatee countered once again, tying the game at two goals apiece with 6:41 left on the clock. The remainder of the game would see near misses from both sides and exceptional (and sometimes acrobatic) play by Berkeley’s Sophomore goaltender, Spencer Rose, who saved 37 of 39 shots on the night. By the time the final horn sounded, the score remained unchanged, giving the Ice Bucs their first official tie of the season.
