IRC Invitational Results

Yesterday, the Cross Country Bucs traveled across the pond to Walsingham Park in Largo to compete in the IRCS Invitational. This small meet, on a fast course, featured a total of 7 teams, allowing the Bucs to work on some different racing strategies. In the end, the Bucs dominated team scores with the girls scoring a perfect 15 points, while the boys easily won with a score of 28 points.
There were many highlights and PR’s on the evening, but the one big standout was Ethan Lipham winning the Boys 5K in a time of 15:49. This time ranks him tied for 3rd All-Time for Berkeley in the 5K.
The girls started the PR’s, as they went first. Running in a strategic pack, Claire Armstrong took the team through a solid first mile. Heidi Hausinger then grabbed the lead and pushed the pace during the second mile. The third mile witnessed a jail break, as the strategy became a free-for-all. Once the dust settled, our girls team swept the race, taking the first 9 spots (only 42 seconds separated 1 – 5 runners) in the race – and setting many personal and/or season best times. Abbey Ramos and Anna McDermott separated from our pack as they finished 1 – 2 in the race! Only about 10 seconds behind, Finley Jordan ran her best race of the season to continue to close the gap between our 1 – 3 runners. Kylie Stephens had a great rebound race to run as a strong number 4, while Macy Maiocco had her best race of the season to round out our scoring 5. Heidi Hausinger and Claire Armstrong finished within our top 7, as Emily McDermott, Abby Armstrong, and Kaitlyn Chan rounded out our top 10 runners on the day.
The Boys raced next, with a similar strategy, but divided into 2 groups. Ethan Lipham and Hudson Rowan had the strategy of hanging with the Berkeley pack through the first 1000 meters. Those two then split from the race and cranked a fast 2nd mile (fastest of the race) in route to a dominating performance by Ethan. In the Berkeley Pack, Colby Kudla was in-charge of the first mile, taking the Berkeley Buc Boys through in great shape. Superfrosh Kirin Karver then had the responsibility through to the 3K mark, at which time it became a free-for-all. When the race finished, Kirin (huge PR), Trey, and Luke finished 4th, 5th, 6th place in the race. Wolfgang added a 9th place finish, while Colby Kudla and Liam Jordan finished 11th and 12th overall in personal or seasonal best times. Alex Shear and Storm Weber rounded out our top 10 on the day, finishing in 17th and 18th place.
The Varsity Team will be back in action next Saturday morning (10-12) at the FSU Pre-State Invitational in Tallahassee. The JV teams will be action next Friday (10-11) at the CCC Invitational. The MD Teams will be in action on Monday in the FWCL series. Go Bucs!
