Newsome Results

The Varsity Girls Soccer team hosted its first ever Champions League match on Dickey field Tuesday evening, a match against 6A region finalist and Tampa Bay Top Ten #1 ranked Newsome HS. The two teams fought throughout the first half with strong defensive efforts on both sides of the slate. The half time score of 0-0 provided the stepping stone to a second half packed with excitement.  After the Newsome wolves tested the Berkeley defensive end of the field early in the second half, it would be a Berkeley eleven counter attack that would find the back of the net first off the foot of Sophomore midfielder Sojo Wyant, a great back post shot from the right side of the Newsome box, assisted by Freshman Izzy Youssef at the 23 minute mark of the half.  The Buccaneers could not hold the lead, allowing a Wolves goal on a well-earned header off a corner kick in the 27th minute to tie things up with just over 13 minutes to play.  With a determined resilience not seen yet to this point in the young season, the Buccaneers found a way to capitalize on a set piece off a short corner as Wyant found the foot of midfielder Adrianna Price on the backside of the Newsome box, redirecting the ball to the back corner of the net for the lead.  With only 9 minutes remaining the Buccaneers were able to neutralize any attacks mounted by the Wolves in the final minutes, and came away with a well-deserved 2-1 Champions League victory!
Go Bucs!
