Safety in the House of God

To put one's trust in the Lord can be a scary thing. For someone who is suffering or for someone scared of what the future can hold, this trust is a huge leap of faith. When I first moved to Florida the first family I met were the Rodrigues’s. I went to elementary school with their oldest daughter Bella. I spent countless weekends playing football with their son Freddy. In high school I didn’t see them as often and my connection to them faded.

Four months ago, my momma told me that Mr. Rodrigues had stage 4 kidney cancer. As of now he only has a couple of weeks to live. There's a good chance he won’t get to see his daughter graduate or his son play in his first spring football game. He will leave behind three kids and a wife all of whom have had to watch him waste away these past couple months. He has suffered unimaginably and rightfully so has become angry at the world around him. When my mom brings him dinner she used to say that he was a hollow and empty person full of hate for everything around him. I don't think anyone can blame him. He has, however, begun going to church and fostering a connection with God and my mom said that his demeanor has improved exponentially.

I can’t understand why some things happen to certain people. I guess maybe I don’t have to. If we put our faith in God, some way or another things will be alright.
